Benefit Association Saarland stops support of dolphin therapies on Curacao

Posted by Dolphin Therapy Team in Dolphin Therapy NewsNo Comments »/

Monika Weis of the Saarland Charitable Organization states the following in regard to the continuing support of dolphin therapies, especially as they relate to Curacao.

Before I explain the reasons for this decision I want to make it clear that, basically, I am not opposed to dolphin therapies since I’ve been able to convince myself of the successes of such therapies. The children are, indeed, making significant and visible progress.

Feedback regarding Dolphin Therapy from the Ladas Family

Posted by Dolphin Therapy Team in Therapy TestimonialsNo Comments »/

The service around the subject of dolphin therapy was absolutely superb. Svetlana, Julia and also Silvio are not just competent and eager to help, but are also wonderfully likeable and dear people. And also Svetlana’s husband, Igor, whom we got to know along the way, is a very likeable and pleasant person. The interns Kim and Miriam were also very eager to help and we were totally satisfied.

We felt very well taken care of in the Dolphin Therapy Center in Marmaris, and the professionalism was obvious and came with all the necessary sensitivity. Also organizationally we could find no fault. Absolutely super, and we can only express a huge Thank You and fully deserved praise.

Onmega Dolphin Therapy Center actively supports animal protection

Posted by Dolphin Therapy Team in Dolphin Therapy News,Mixed Info2 Comments »/

A German animal protection organisation, the ‚‚Wal- und Delphinschutz-Forum (WDSF)’’, is currently causing a huge fuss on the Internet and is calling for a protest which demands a world-wide closure of Dolphinariums. A demonstration is also planned for April at our Dolphin Therapy Center in Marmaris.

It is unfortunate that many of our self-named animal protectionist experts are undifferentiated, without expertise and even argue with falsehoods. They view all dolphinariums world-wide as similar, or they make totally unqualified comparisons with the massacre of dolphins in Japan.

We in the Onmega Dolphin Therapy Center cultivate a responsible interaction with Nature and our animals.

Dolphin Therapy in Marmaris actively supports animal protection

We also strongly condemn some of the facilities which does not hold their dolphins in any way gently and humanely.

In the Summer of 2010 we were actively involved in freeing two dolphins from two unscrupulous businessmen in Hisarönü near Fethiye that were held in a much too small swimming pool.

Our sea-mammal rescue team is the only center for injured, stranded or ill sea mammals and turtles on the whole of the Turkish mediterranean coast.

What you should know about dolphin therapy:

  • Various scientific studies in USA, Russia, Spain, Mexico, Australia, Israel and many other countries, also Germany, have proven that dolphin therapy has an impressive effect, which many people have experienced first-hand.
  • After many years of successful research, under the management of Research Scientist Dr. Lorenzo von Fersen and his Project Manager Dr. Eva Stumpf, at the University of Würzburg, a new dolphin therapy project will be opened in Nürnberg, Germany in 2012.
  • But the best evidence are the many great and small miracles that we daily experience here, even if there are still many critics that try to dispute the scientific proof .
  • How many therapy or healing methods or other attainments of applied science have through hundreds of years of experience been successfully applied although without scientific proof?

What the Parents concerned say about dolphin therapy:

  • With the consent of the parents we publish their dolphin therapy reports on our web site.
  • Nowhere else can one find so many therapy reports in the internet
  • Moreover, one can also contact the parents by e-mail to ask questions about the therapy.

What you should know about our Dolphin Therapy Center:

  • Our dolphins are very dear to us, as if they were our own children, and they are put to use exclusively for the therapy of disabled children and adults.
  • It has never occurred in our Center that a patient has been injured by one of our animals
  • We do not offer acrobatic dolphin shows
  • We were awarded custody of the dolphins by the Turkish government, after years of strict examination, for breeding and therapy purposes in our Dolphin Therapy Center.

Dolphins in Marmaris live in their natural element

What you should know about the keeping of our dolphins:

  • It is often said that dolphins cannot be held in custody by people. The internationally acclaimed scientist Dr. Randall Wells has after many years made the assessment that there are no differences between wild dolphins and tame dolphins in respect to their lifespan.
  • Our dolphins are held in an open expansive enclosure of sea water in Marmaris bay, unique in Europe
  • The dolphins live in their natural element in a 3000 sq.m. and 9m. deep floating sea water pool and preserve their Frequency and Sonar capabilities which are so important for the therapy
  • The biological balance is preserved, as is the hygiene which is natural – no requirement for harmful chemicals
  • Our 4 dolphins have 15 million liters of natural sea water as habitat – this is unique

Ask a dolphin protectionist why

  • every year 300.000 dolphins have to die in fishing nets?
  • many sea mammals die because of submarine sonar systems
  • every year 15000 dolphins and small whales are massacred in Japan, Faroe Isles, Norway, Denmark, Iceland and other islands?
  • in Germany 17 dolphins are held in captivity?
  • Ric O´Barry, the Actor known as the ‚Flipper trainer’ and so-called ‚dolphin expert’ has for his dealings with dolphins been fined by US Courts for 40.000 US$ and in a second case for 20.000 US$?

We are always ready to talk about the subject of the protection of animals and species and we are in constant contact with many animal protection institutions, environmental organisations, societies for the disabled, rehabilitation centers, Ministries, Universities and other interested parties.

We at Onmega support animal protection actively, and financially, and share the same aims as whale and dolphin protectionists. However we distance ourselves from uninformed and misinformed critics of dolphin therapy centers of any type – a new center has been opened in the Amazon successfully using blind river dolphins with disabled children.

What can we achieve together?

  • Let us set up a constructive and pertinent dialogue for everyone
  • Take part in the internet discussion – with your personal experiences – to give animal protectionists more insight into dolphin therapy. We are always ready to help should the discussion take a wrong turn or become too one-sided
  • At “” you can let us know of discussions and you can always turn to us with questions. We guarantee a reply and would give you support backed up by our years of experience
  • Write a short Therapy Report, if you haven’t done so already, so that we can publish it on our web-site. We want to give our best to the rehabilitation of our disabled children, whether it has been scientifically proven or not.

Dolphins can help Ralph

Posted by Dolphin Therapy Team in Therapy Testimonials,Media ReportsNo Comments »/
Article by newspaper Augsburger Allgemeine, 10.11.2010, author: Lorenz

Ralph from Ichenhausen-Rieden is now more alert, relaxed and shows more interest. He is very thankful to the young people in the village who helped to make this possible. Ralph has been seriously disabled due to a lack of oxygen at birth. The young people invited many others to a congenial coffee afternoon and collected donations, a sum of 2300 Euro, to help finance a dolphin therapy in Turkey in which Ralph recently took part.

About two dozen young people in Rieden collected donations during a coffee afternoon for Ralph who is of the same age. Simon Götz, Andreas Milonas and Alexander Dehm (at the rear from the left) were able to present to Ralph Sonderholzer and his parents Centa and Edwin the sum of 2300 Euro to help pay for a special therapy. It will be „a celebration for the whole village“ said the 21 year-old Alexander Dehm of the festivities. He and his friends Simon Götz (19), Andreas Milonas (20) and another 20 young people from Rieden wanted to help finance the 5000 Euro therapy with coffee and cakes and live music in the hall at the Gasthaus Weißes Ross. Cakes and coffee were donated which made for a lovely Autumn Sunday afternoon.

At least 15 young people gave their best in the kitchen and serving the 150 guests who came not only from Rieden but also neighbouring localities. „There was a lot of coming and going“, said Simon Götz with satisfaction. They were entertained by Ralph’s brother in-law on accordeon and guitar. Also his sister Corina held a Beamer show giving first-hand information on dolphin therapy. Ralph was accompanied to the therapy in Marmaris by his parents Centa and Edwin Sonderholzer as also by his sister and brother in-law Corina and Konrad Butzmann to provide 24-hour support.

This was a great success ensured mother Centa Sonderholzer. „He adjusted so well“ she said happily, and reported that her son had really enjoyed the daily 45 minute sessions in the lagoon with the dolphins. „The dolphin kissed him repeatedly“, said Centa Sonderholzer. Ralph had held his arms out, touched the dolphin, even in its mouth.
