This year I finally had time to write a report and I cannot even express how grateful I am towards Barbara and Daisy. We already had been to dolphin therapy last year with Leon (8).

We kept our expectations for the therapy very low so we would not be disappointed. As Leon suffers from multiple disabilities, we were not sure what kind of changes could be expected.

Leon could only speak a few words last year before the therapy, and even these few were very hard to understand. Right after the 4. therapy with Daisy, Leon started saying several words and they became more and more with time. Overall, his whole development took a giant step forwards. We still cannot believe what Daisy brought out in Leon.

Leon also has a balance problem which makes walking impossible for him. But even this has improved and he can now walk a few meters with the rollator. Because of these great improvements we decided to do another therapy. As the whole team moved in the Winter we were looking forward to our next trip to turkey even more (the Kemer Resort was not so great). Maxi’s second dolphin therapy in Kemer, Turkey from 16.6 until 7.7.2008

After the positive experiences from last year (Sept. 2007) we decided to do another dolphin therapy. In the months after the last therapy, Maxi showed great progress with his head control.

Some info about our Maxi

Maxi was born on the 07.01.05 as a healthy baby and stopped developing when he was 6 months old. He is still like a “big baby”-rolls, but cannot sit, crawl, walk or speak. He has problems with coordination and perception. We also do not know how much he can see. A diagnonsis/cause for his mental and motoric developmental block has not been found yet, despite numerous medical examinations in and out of the country.

We were able to visit the Dolphin Therapy Centre in Kemer for a second time this year.We knew beforehand that the Therapy Centre had to move and we were very interested to see what changes had been made. At last the time had arrived and on 16.06.2008 we made an early morning start from Cologne to Dalaman. As on our previous visit a Transfer was awaiting us at the airport to take us to the hotel. We want to first say thank you to Linda and Barbara for a great therapy with Florian!!

Even if it was a bit difficult for Florian and us at the beginning, the new surroundings, a new therapist and such a big animal in the water-it was a lot to process. After a few days we had gotten comfortable and felt great.

Of course we were all very curious and excited about what was waiting for us in Kemer. We started at 3am and got to the airport very late, had to take a 2 hour bus ride from Dalaman to our hotel and were happy when the journey was over.

Dear “Dolphin-Team“,

I am now sitting here and trying to find the right words to describe our experiences and impressions from October,but it is not that easy. Where do I start? Best to start with our daughter: Jessica Sophie was born July 2004 and was born two months early. Her health conditions were first attributed to her premature birth.

However, after a while we could not believe this anymore. A long period of physicals and hospital stays began. Then, beginning of 2007, the diagnosis: Coach-Syndrome. What is this?

It is a very rare metabolism disease, worldwide only 20 cases are known. Thus, there is not much experience with this disease, but the University of Washington in Seattle is currently researching it. So now we had a name for the condition of our daughter, but this did not really help us much. It was recommended that we do physiotherapy and early intervention with her. David and I were back at the intervention center Pramet for 3 weeks. They all praised him a lot. He participated well and showed good progress.

He now usually sits without his seatbelt in his wheelchair, can hold himself well and has good posture. His control over holding his head high is very good sometimes.

Hello Barbara !

It took a while, but now we have a lot to report. Firstly, I hope you and your colleagues are doing well and that you all had a good start into the new year. We have a very turbulent time behind us because Michael has been sick a lot.Otherwise he is doing great though.
-He walks very well holding our hand. He sometimes lets go and yesterday for the first time he stood on his own for about 30seconds and did this several more times. -Michaels understanding of language has improved and his reaction time following requests has shortened.
