Vienna (AFP) — A Viennese gynaecologist has been ordered to pay for dolphin therapy for his little patient following a mistake at birth. The Austrian newspaper “Die Presse” reported on Monday that the high court has ordered the University professor and the clinic to pay 628.550 Euros for care and treatment, including ‘alternative treatment’, for the now twelve year old disabled child.
The Doctor had ignored clear signals to re-animate the new-born child in time. He was taken to intensive care but by that time the damage was irreparable. As a result the boy is spastic and requires permanent care.
After two therapies the boy can now grasp and release objects and can move his body at least so far that people can carry him more easily. The objection that dolphin therapy is not medically recognized was overruled by the court because of the obvious success of the therapy.
