Hallo Baerbel,
Yes, I was in Turkey for six months.
I have been in Germany for a month now. I miss the time in turkey very much! But I have made plans to fly there next summer again.
The team is really great and we undertook a lot together and there were so many new experiences that I hardly had time to miss home. But naturally on a couple of days I was homesick. It was really super that my family and friends could come and visit.
Part of my duties were to work with the Hotels, prepare meetings, give support to the families, help during the therapies and preparatory work and lots of organisatory tasks.
I had very many different tasks. It was especially pleasing to be able to work independently.
I hope that you are able to roll up your sleeves and get to work. Then some of the tasks involve cleaning and getting yourself dirty. Also you will be working on the open sea, which is not compatible with a nervous stomach, and in the Summer it often reaches 50°C which is the time in which we are most busy. But at the same time you can learn a lot!
The trainers are real cool and they taught me very much about dolphins.
Barbara is the chief dolphin therapist and has incredible experience and does really good work. I want to be like her!
You will have enough time to watch the therapies. Barbara readily shares her knowledge if you show interest……so watch and ask, ask, ask.
So many different people visit there with widely different disabilities (eg. Autism, Persistant vegetative state, spastics), so many different families with different backgrounds and destinies. incredibly nice, interesting, warm hearted, open and endearing people.
I didn’t just gain knowledge about dolphins, disabilities or therapy…….I learned things that will remain with me for the rest of my life!
It was always my wish to work in dolphin therapy. Dolphins have always fascinated me and they are such nice animals and working with the disabled people – it made me very happy. The work there combined my main interests and it was really a joy. It is really nice of Axel (Herr Linke) , to give young people a chance to take part in such an interesting practical training and to help me to realise my dream of dolphin therapy practical training.
I only hope that you take this opportunity, when offered, and that you take part wholeheartedly, giving your all for the people there and the good work.
Please write if you have any questions………..I hope I was of help.
Best wishes
Irina
Hello,
I got your address from Herrn Axel Linke because I am interested in taking part in dolphin therapy practical training. I wanted to ask how you are faring there? What do you have to do? How do you like it? Does it meet your expectations? Have they made you feel at home? Do you feel good? What is it like to be away so long in a foreign country?
Questions, Questions, ……….I would be pleased to hear from you and hope you continue to have a good time.
Best wishes from rainy Germany.
